Vinyl Biquini Cavadão – Descivilização (1991)
Special Edition: Smoked Translucent Red
Released in the second half of 1991, Descivilização is the fourth studio album by Biquini Cavadão. The record was born out of a turbulent period: after a year and a half of an existential crisis, the Rio de Janeiro rock band paused their tours and discarded newly written songs to search for a more mature sound.
The result was a major success. Known for their 1980s teen hits like "Tédio", the group expanded their thematic and sonic range in this work. The album brought a more pop and funk-infused groove, featuring lyrics that traded youth dilemmas for social critiques and existential reflections.
Album Highlights
- Vento Ventania: The biggest commercial hit on the record.
- Zé Ninguém: A striking social critique that opens the album.
- Cai Água, Cai Barraco: Features a special appearance by Herbert Vianna (from Os Paralamas do Sucesso), the man who actually named the band.
- Arcos: A track featuring the acoustic guitar of Bossa Nova master Roberto Menescal.
Production and Lineup
The nine original tracks were composed by the classic quintet: Álvaro Birita (drums), Bruno Gouveia (vocals), Carlos Coelho (guitar), Miguel Flores da Cunha (keyboards), and Sheik (bass). Three of the main tracks were co-written by Beni Borja, the discoverer and producer of the group.
