LP MILTON NASCIMENTO & LÔ BORGES – CLUBE DA ESQUINA Imported Edition. Clube da Esquina (The Corner Club) was one of the most important and innovative movements in Brazilian Popular Music (MPB), emerging in the 1960s in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. Led by legendary figures such as Milton Nascimento and brothers Lô Borges and Márcio Borges, the collective brought together a group of young musicians, composers, and poets at the famous corner of Divinópolis and Paraisópolis streets, in the traditional neighborhood of Santa Tereza. 🎸
The music of Clube da Esquina uniquely blended the harmonies of Bossa Nova with the energy of British rock (especially The Beatles). It also brought strong influences from jazz, traditional folk music from Minas Gerais, African roots, classical music, and Hispanic rhythms. This fusion created a lyrical, rich, and universal atmosphere that projected the culture of Minas Gerais to the entire world.
The collective operated as a large community of friends who collaborated intensely with one another. Among the fundamental members were:
- Musicians and Performers: Milton Nascimento (“Bituca”), Lô Borges, Beto Guedes, Toninho Horta, Wagner Tiso, Flávio Venturini, and Tavinho Moura.
- Lyricists and Poets: Márcio Borges, Fernando Brant, and Ronaldo Bastos, who were responsible for the deep poetry that defined the songs.
