Fate of Nations, Robert Plant's sixth studio album, was released in 1993. The songwriting is solid, the musicianship is accomplished, and the sound quality is excellent.
Former Cutting Crew guitarist Kevin MacMichael performs on every track and also provides backing vocals. Violinist Nigel Kennedy appears on one track. The song "I Believe" is a tribute to Plant's late son, Karac.
About the CD, Robert Plant said: "From the beginning of this project, around January 1991, just after the Manic Nirvana tour, I knew what I wanted to do: return to my past, listening to Grape, Airplane, Tim Hardin, Quicksilver, Traffic, and other artists who were instrumental in the development of rock.
These people were trying to say something, bringing together different traditions with a sense of exploration in their acoustic and electronic themes.
I'm also proud of what I tried to do lyrically, trying to tell vivid stories that come from a strong tradition of prose."
This version of Fate of Nations is the remastered edition, reissued by Rhino Records on March 20, 2007, with five additional bonus tracks.
