General Description
Dance of Death is the thirteenth studio album by the British heavy metal band. It is a studio work that features eleven songs. It is the second album with the six-member lineup, and features the first and only studio track co-written by drummer Nicko McBrain, "New Frontier". The album's name comes from the allegory of the Danse Macabre, regarding the universality of death.
"Montségur" was based on the massacre of the Cathars at Montségur Castle in 1244.
"Dance of Death" is inspired by the film The Seventh Seal.
"New Frontier" is Nicko McBrain's first composition, and is inspired by cloning and genetic engineering.
"Paschendale" is inspired by the Battle of Passchendaele during World War I.
"Journeyman" is the band's first and only completely acoustic track. An electric version appears on the EP "No More Lies".
"Face In The Sand" – This was the first song Nicko McBrain recorded using a double bass drum pedal.
