It is tThe X Factor is the tenth studio album by the heavy metal band Iron Maiden, released in 1995. This album was Iron Maiden's first with vocalist Blaze Bayley (Wolfsbane), chosen by Steve Harris after remembering the singer's performance opening for Iron Maiden years earlier. Bayley replaced Bruce Dickinson, who left the band to pursue his solo career.
The album's tone is dark due to bassist and songwriter Steve Harris going through personal problems at the time, resulting in heavy and melancholic lyrics and atmospheres. This fantasy combined well with Blaze's vocal style. The name The X Factor has two inspirations: the first comes from the Roman numeral "X" meaning ten, being the band's tenth album, and the X Factor being, according to producer Nigel Green, the arrival of the new and dedicated vocalist.
